As the product of modern technology development, CNC machining has lots of advantages compared to conventional machining and manufacturing. The introduction of machines, tools, materials, surface treatment and more aspects of CNC machining on cnclathing.com may be helpful to understand the technique better.

Advantages of CNC Machining over Conventional Machining

1. The numerical control processing technology is relatively complex

When using NC machining technology, it is necessary to fully consider the positioning benchmark, processability and clamping method of parts, as well as the process route, tool selection, process parameters and cutting methods, which can be simplified in traditional machining. Therefore, the NC machining process in the actual use of a lot of complex, affected by many factors, in the process of use, we must carry out scientific and reasonable analysis of NC programming. For the same machining task, when using CNC machining, there can be different process schemes, which is incomparable with the traditional machining process.

2. Tool selection

Because NC machining and traditional machining methods and processes are very different, so the selection of cutting tools is also very different. In the process of NC machining, high-speed cutting is used, while in the traditional machining, speed cutting is used, which has a great advantage. High speed cutting has a great improvement in machining quality and efficiency, small cutting deformation, and improved machining cycle. Compared with traditional machining, NC machining has higher requirements for cutting tools.

3. Selection of clamping and fixture

In NC machining, there are two requirements for the fixture: first, the coordinate direction between the fixture and the machine tool should be fixed; second, coordinate the dimension relationship between the coordinate system of the machine tool and the parts. When selecting the fixture, the CNC machining center should determine the position and installation requirements according to the reference hole and groove of the worktable to ensure the size between the machine coordinate system and the parts, which is one of the important differences with the traditional machine tool machining. There are two main steps in clamping, that is, clamping and positioning. When clamping traditional machine tools, the number of clamping increases due to the limitation of machine tool capacity. When the numerical control machine tool is clamped, it can process multiple surfaces at one time, so that the clamping error is reduced.

4. Processing method

The cantilever boring in traditional machining and the support boring formed by tailstock guide are replaced by the turning boring and different forms of fixed cycle in CNC machine tools. The traditional machining methods, such as air knife method, filling method, trimming method and other technologies, are replaced by various back boring method, arc interpolation method and NC trimming method. At present, as a new processing technology, the new hard cutting can not only improve the working efficiency, but also greatly reduce the cost input, which makes the traditional grinding technology face new challenges. The technology of cutting instead of grinding will be the development trend of modern manufacturing and processing.
