Ultimately, Jagex inspired event in July 2018. This week-long event involved players completing a variety of tasks to make rewards and, in appropriate conflict pass mode, there were just two reward tracks players could follow: a complimentary track and a premium course, which was purchasable for 400 RuneCoins (approximately £7). The participant base criticised runePass for feeling more like an expansion of the battle system, instead of being its unique, event. The trail that was free was criticised for lacking considerable rewards.

Jagex was aware of the issues with RunePass, however, as senior product manager Matt Casey explained to Eurogamer:"It [RunePass] was a tiny bit hurried and we did not give it sufficient gestation time that led to a system that didn't provide enough value for players. It didn't have enough players and rewards felt it did not represent good value." Casey added RunePass, and its successor Yak Track, are"part of a larger type of initiative for us to look at just how can we evolve our monetisation model and our strategy".

Jon Goddard, head of corporate communications in Jagex, explained to Eurogamer the Jagex was approached"straight by the select committee to share in the procedure and were invited to attend and give oral evidence straight to the committee". Jagex was encouraged to appear before the select committee, because, Goddard clarified, the firm"leads in areas such as participant safety and participant protection". Evidence was given by jagex such as EA, Epic Games and Instagram, alongside a variety of societal networking companies and other game developers.

The report from this analysis was released on RuneScape Mobile gold September 2019. Controversially, the report also contained an anonymous complaint from the parents of an adult player, who had reportedly spent in excess of £50,000 on RuneScape. In the written evidence supplied with this anonymous individual, the complainant maintained their son"took out cash loans, bank loans and'max'd' out a credit card", and detailed how this"financially destroyed our [their] retirement plans" as they had to repay their son's debt.
